A franchise in web design, what is the web coming to?

A recent trend of companies offering franchises in web design are becoming all too familiar. Our concern as a company that has been around since 1985, is that they will only bring the standards of web design down and further dilute this specialist industry. As an agency striving to meet the latest web standards and designing real business tools for our clients, we use our passion, experience and training to deliver quality projects.
One thing is key, any business looking to invest in its next web project must make sure they are talking to industry professionals, with a real passion for what they do.

I'm not so sure about bringing the standards down as in most cases these franchises are really just agents bringing work to an in house team of expert web designers.
Saying that though - most web design franchises that I have came across are fairly low level opportunities simply selling website packages to local businesses, paying 10k for the privilege and not gaining much in return (a few sales made in a year). Also - you can get a fairly standard site chucked up pretty cheaply nowadays and this is all most small businesses need, but the franchise packages seem to be selling their sites for inflated prices and an ongoing monthly charge for maintenance and hosting which in all honesty is over inflated also. With a decent CMS and the cheap price of hosting it should be possible to keep the costs for small businesses very low which is not reflected in most franchise web design businesses packages.
